| Article: NAV137 | Setting up Training Companies / Databases |
| Summary: | Eclipse allows you to set up multiple Companies / Databases. This is sometimes useful if you have two or more completely separate departments in your company with different equipment, different customers and maybe different billing systems. For details on how install a second company and how to use the Eclipse Multi-Company utility to make Eclipse switch between the two databases, please consult your Eclipse manual. However, even if you only have one trading company, it is always a good idea to install a second Company / Database, especially when you are first setting Eclipse up. There are TWO reasons for this: 1. . As you are entering data into the Equipment Book, Address Book and
Accounts Book, very often you need to trial what you have done so far with
dummy jobs, fake scenarios etc, just to see if it all works as expected, whether
your paperwork needs adjusting, etc. No doubt you will make a few revisions and
by the time you have got everything just right you find that you have a lot of
bogus jobs, invoices, orders, quotes etc all making a mess of nice new database.
The answer to this is simple: when you are ready to go "live" with
Eclipse you can use theEclipse
File Manager to copy all your Equipment, Customers, Accounts, and any
REPORTS you have modified from your "Setup Company" to your "Live
Company" . You then begin using the Eclipse with the "Live
Company" and you start with a completely clean Job Book 2. The "Setup Company" carries on being very useful. Whenever you
are unsure of how to do something in Eclipse, or maybe you want to try out a new
strategy, you can switch to the "Setup Company" to trial this without
any fear of creating any garbage on the system. In addition, whenever you take
on new members of staff and want to train them in how to use Eclipse, put them
on the "Setup Company", they can't do any harm there |
